Scam Warning: Fake Church of Scotland Lottery Websites

We have been made aware of fraudulent websites claiming to promote a Church of Scotland fundraising lottery, both nationally and on behalf of individual congregations.

These websites appear professional and convincing, but they are not affiliated with the Church of Scotland in any way. The issue has been reported to the appropriate authorities by the Church of Scotland’s National Offices.

One key warning sign is that some of the web addresses misspell “Scotland” with two c’s.

If you know of anyone who has made a payment through one of these fraudulent websites, please encourage them to contact Police Scotland as soon as possible.

For clarity, the Church of Scotland does not operate a fundraising lottery.

Please remain vigilant and take extra care when visiting websites or responding to requests for donations online. If you are ever unsure whether a fundraising appeal is genuine, please contact the church directly before making any payment.
