Singing In Praise
When and where do we meet?
- Monday evenings (dates will be confirmed)
- Tea/Coffee available from 7 pm, sing from 7.30 pm – 9 pm
- Duncansburgh Church, MacIntosh Hall PH33 6BA
Why should you come along?
We asked our choir members and this is what they said:
“Singing in Praise is a wonderfully relaxed environment to come together, achieve new musical goals and enjoy a bit of friendship along the way . . . For the joy of singing together, the warm welcome and the chance to take a peaceful hour or two out of a busy week . . . I enjoy singing, good company and fellowship . . . Singing makes me happy . . . You meet other people, singing makes you happy, joyful and relaxed . . . For the fellowship and joy which comes from sharing praise from voices singing in harmony . . .To listen to our fabulous accompanist – every Monday is a recital . . . To have the pleasure of other musicians joining in with us playing clarinet and violin . . . Listening and learning from the musicality of others . . . Gets me out and about to enjoy the company of others – younger and older . . . Mixed company and the exercise of singing is good for your health . . . I enjoy the friendly company and the singing . . . I connect to God through the words and choices of songs we sing . . . The fellowship is warm and there is Christian unity, lots of banter and laughter but a real spirit of joy . . . Sacred music is my favourite music to sing, the hymns are relevant to our everyday life and carry a message of hope.”

What do we sing?
We use the rich tapestry of sacred music found in church hymnaries and we sing other pieces which speak of faith, hope and love. We are very fortunate to have a balance across all voices – Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass – allowing us to sing in harmony
Does the choir sing in church every Sunday?
We don’t sing as a ‘church choir’ during Sunday services but hope that by being amongst the congregation our voices will boost the singing throughout the service. This is a truly ecumenical choir, members come from across Lochaber and from all denominations. We are very grateful to the Minister and Kirk Session of Fort William Kilmallie Parish Church for allowing us to meet on a Monday evening. We have at least two events each session and we always enjoy going ‘on tour’ to sing with our friends at our linked parish of Kilmonivaig. Recently we were invited to sing with our neighbours at St Andrews Church and also as part of Celtic Praise (Royal National Mod).
There is no register taken – it’s more important that you come along as often as you can, whenever you can to gain the benefits of Singing in Praise with others. There are no auditions and you do not have to be able to read music. We collect £20 per year as a subscription to cover the cost of music and make a contribution to Church funds.
